HIGHLIGHTS of the

ATLANTIC SCHOOL BOARDS CONFERENCE 2007

Unsure if you should come?  Look at the following highlights:

- We have a very timely theme to offer educational decision-makers: Our Schools: Places of Learning, Harbours of Safety…This cannot come at a better time for all of us.  You’ll receive up to date information on security issues, prevention measures, etc. You’ll hear about different techniques to tackle the issues, and you can share with your colleagues from Atlantic Canada your experiences, success stories, and hence ensure we all improve the learning environment in which our children interact everyday.

- Our guest speaker will challenge your mind: Let Lt. Col. Dave Grossman tell you about “how our kids are learning to kill and learning to like it”, presenting the relationship between media violence and violent crime.

- We offer a Pre-Conference package for those interested in hands-on practices: school visits will be offered along with a very elite working session with Dave Grossman, one of the world's leading experts on interpersonal aggression and violence.

Still not certain if you should come?

- We have plenary sessions on:

Overcoming Obstacles for Effective Communication: A workshop to help clarify misunderstanding and to promote congruence both interpersonally and intrapersonally.

Male-underachievement: What policy-makers should know; what teachers should know, and what parents should know, by Memorial University researcher Dr. David Dibbon.

- A variety of workshops offered by Atlantic Canada experts on:

Parental Engagement and Participation in Education; Gender Intelligence; Emotion-Free Therapy; Drugs in our Schools; Legal Scenarios; Anti-Bullying Programs that work.

If you’re still undecided?

We have entertainment that everyone will enjoy! Dazzling musical performances by student’s bands and the Canada Remembers Choir. A taste of Maritime music by the Lazy Jacks to go with our wine and cheese reception. And an Island Youth band called Nautical Mile to keep you dancing after the famous yearly Atlantic Conference banquet.

And we’ll give you time to check out our great city of Charlottetown. You’ll be treated like kings and queens at the Rodd Charlottetown Hotel, in the heart of downtown.

And if you think your partner won’t let you come?

We have something for him/her too! C’mon over to the Island - where the fun begins!
